Molybdenum market update on October 15, 2025
The domestic molybdenum market is experiencing a general upward price trend, with molybdenum concentrate price rising by approximately 50 yuan per ton-unit and ferromolybdenum price by about 2,000 yuan per ton. This is primarily driven by molybdenum mining enterprises proactively increasing prices and most steel companies being willing to raise their ferromolybdenum procurement prices.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, there is an overall trend of simultaneous volume and price increases. Influenced by growing downstream demand, slow growth in spot supply, and recent oscillatory upward movements in international molybdenum prices, suppliers have generally raised their quotes. Against this backdrop, profit-taking sentiment in the market has also risen.
In the ferromolybdenum market, trading activity remains high, with product prices continuing to climb, mainly due to active bidding by numerous steel companies and strong willingness among raw material suppliers to ship. Notably, high production costs and limited price increases have placed significant operational pressure on intermediate smelting enterprises.
In the molybdenum chemical and product markets, the situation is moderate. With supply and demand in a relatively balanced state, product prices fluctuate with changes in raw material costs, and today, molybdate prices have generally increased by 1,000 yuan per ton.
According to news, customs data shows that in September 2025, China imported 548,000 tons of steel, increased by 9.6% month-on-month, with an average price of 1,624.1 USD per ton, decreased by 1.7% month-on-month; exported 10,465,000 tons of steel, increased by 10.0% month-on-month, with an average price of 679.1 USD per ton, decreased by 2.7% month-on-month. From January to September 2025, China cumulatively imported 4,532,000 tons of steel, decreased by 12.6% year-on-year, and cumulatively exported 87,955,000 tons of steel, increased by 9.2% year-on-year.
