Molybdenum market update on June 25, 2025
The domestic molybdenum prices are exhibiting a high-level downward trend, with molybdenum concentrate price decreasing by approximately 10 yuan/ton-degree, ferromolybdenum price decreasing by about 1,000 yuan/ton, and molybdenum powder price decreasing by around 2 yuan/kg. Currently, the continuous decline in steel tender prices has slightly undermined industry confidence in the future market.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, a supply-demand stalemate persists. Supported by strong production costs and limited spot supply, some holders maintain firm quotes. However, low downstream purchase offers and a sluggish international molybdenum market have led some suppliers to opt for price reductions.
In the ferromolybdenum market, trading activity remains moderate. Amid recent steel price declines and tight funding, steel companies continue to suppress ferromolybdenum bids. However, due to the scarcity of low-priced stock and intermediate smelters’ efforts to minimize losses, price reductions are modest. Today, prices for 201/2B stainless steel coil and 316/2B stainless steel coil decreased by approximately 70 yuan and 300 yuan, respectively.
In the molybdenum chemical and product market, conditions are lukewarm. With high raw material prices and terminal customers maintaining essential procurement, supplier quotes remain relatively stable, and order growth is slow. Today, sodium molybdate and molybdenum powder prices are stabilizing at around 171,000 yuan/ton and 438 yuan/kg, respectively.
In related news, customs data shows that from January to May 2025, China’s cumulative import volume of molybdenum products reached 34,621.44 tons, increased by 18.96% year-on-year, with a total import value of 5.041 billion yuan, increased by 26.65% year-on-year. During the same period, China’s cumulative export volume of molybdenum products was 17,466.55 tons, increased by 5.60% year-on-year, with a total export value of 3.663 billion yuan, decreased by 2.31% year-on-year.
